My husband and I run an animal rescue service in London, ON Canada. We started it not too long ago, and it has really taken off. However, it is draining our bank accounts. We didn't realize the amount of people wanting/needing to surrender their pets, most of them having been neglected/abused, and needing immediate vet care.

The things people do in order to be able to drop an animal off as well, is incredible. We have had animals dropped off without our consent, and animals dropped off under the impression that the animal was well cared for, and the owners simply had "no time" for them. Then once the owner has left, we start noticing things...horrible things. It is awful.

So far, we have had a rabbit that hadn't been touched by a human being since birth, a shorthaired cat whose back was covered in long dreadlocks, and two claws on her left paw had grown into her pawpads, and caused a horrible infection making it so she could not walk without pain, resulting in her becoming obese. We have a persian with a severe eye infection, matted fur, and a bruised welt behind the ear, caused by someone beating him with some kind of blunt object.

I almost stopped doing this a few days ago, when someone posted an ad saying we were only doing this to make a profit. It was unbearable, how people think that this is a profitable business...and are so unappreciative. I talked with a member of another rescue and she convinced me to not worry about what someone else thinks, but to only remember how happy the animals are to be in my care.

And despite all the bad people out there, we do have six wonderful foster homes, a groomer, a dog trainer, and a vet that all help us out amazingly, allowing us to help many more animals then we could without them!

We also have a website here: http://2ndpaws.weebly.com/

You can see all of our current adoptable animals there. If anyone is in the area, and would like to adopt, feel free to e-mail us, or comment:) We are desperately looking for homes for these pets...they all deserve it!

I will be updating this journal periodically....using it to vent more then anything else. If anyone would like to add me as a friend, feel free:) I am always looking for more fellow animal lovers to chat with!
